True Conservatives and Liberals
Letter to select Republicans on religious liberty
by Dean Hazel

Posted by the Coffee Coaster with permission of the author

The following is an open letter from Dean Hazel regarding some Republicans' insistence that the United States is a "Christian Nation." It occurs in the context of correspondence between Dean and other noteworthy legal minds. In the letter, I feel Mr. Hazel makes telling arguments supporting the secular nature of political liberty. — ed

13th June 2009

To my fellow Whiggs, Supporters & True Conservatives,

Many rational, reasonable and intelligent minds are puzzled as am I at the attempt to show a political division within the Democratic/Republican Regime.  Are there really liberals and conservatists (the opposite of liberals) in public office and the broadcast media?  The talking heads, most notably Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity would have you believe that they and many liberals are really conservatives and opposed to liberalism, when they are in fact not!

My definition of liberal  comes from Noah Webster's Dictionary of 1828

Free; not literal or strict; as a liberal construction of law."
My definition of Conservative ~ is one who is just the opposite of a liberal, one who is literal or strict in the exercise of the limited authority of government, as with a strict view to the construction of the law and its maker's true intent!

Real conservatives know the difference between Rule by Law and rule of law!  Whiggs and other True Republicans know that under Rule by Law, the law says what it means and means what it says.  It is not subject to interpretation beyond the rules of English grammar and the historical intent expressed by its makers.

For instance, when it comes to all this government pseudo religious stuff about "In God We Trust" on our currency, because we cannot trust the Democratic/Republican Regime, and "Under God" in our pledge, because we must delude the public that it is because of God that things are bad and avoid the justice that may follow in properly giving the credit where it is due, to the self-serving Democratic/Republican Regime and its subversive judiciary, Whiggs and both true Christians and Republicans like Teddy Roosevelt, do not want to cheapen God and continue to violate the secular intent made very clear by our Founding Fathers in Article XI of the Treaty of Tripoli, regarding the separation of the US government from religious influences!

Article XI of the Treaty of Tripoli is very specific!  Its language was written and approved under the Federal State Department of George Washington and then passed by a Congress of Revolutionary War Veterans, being later signed into law by John Adams the second president of these united states, who also was a signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.  Do you suppose that they knew less about the type of government that they had created by their own hands, within their own lives than our modern day so-called religious Christian historians, political leaders and subversive judges?  In legislatively passing the Treaty of Tripoli they proved that they were the majority!  What is undemocratic about that if you pardon the stupid expression misapplied to our Republic and its republican legislative processes?

Yet the liberals trying to run the country under the guise of conservatism together with their openly liberal brethren, prefer rule of law in which the fact is that the law and its true history has no meaning when it really says something entirely different from what they as liberals are advocating.

Under such liberalism the law has no force or effect, as in under rule of law the so-called or pseudo law is what ever the politicians advocating as subversive judges say it is.  Even if their liberal policies require them to now say that black is white or white is black!  Such a judiciary should be hanged for such crimes against the citizens!  But then that would require a return to Rule by Law and not by Men!  One thing that both the so-called or pseudo conservatives and their openly liberal brethren have in common is their propensity to be quite liberal with our property in taxing us on behalf of their corporate and banking buddies to cover the losses caused in fact by the inflationary bank float and usurious monetary fraud of the Federal Mob and its Federal Reserve Banking Cartel!

Well we can't blame Rush Limbaugh!  After all he is just a political entertainer who does not take his broadcast corporate earnings to the bank in a wheel barrow, but in a string of armored trucks!  What man in his right mind would endanger that with the real truth?  It is much the same for the rest of them (the talking heads)!  Even though their share in the fruits of the systematic destruction of this nation is far less than the loudest, most entertaining and highest paid talk show entertainer, the self-exulted Rush Limbaugh!

It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it.
~ Upton Sinclair, "The Jungle"

"Experts are just trained dogs."
~ Albert Einstein

Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget that the state lives at the expense of everyone.
~ Frederic Bastiat, quotes about Tyranny

The sad truth seems to be that the exulted ones if honest, do not know the difference between the words liberal and conservative, coin, currency and money or what is meant by the phrase "fictions to cover usury!"  So how will the American people ever learn or know the difference with what passes for modern education when the exulted ones are the best that the The Ministry of Propaganda & So-called Truth have for us to look to for leadership or in fact, more confused division by misdirection?

Please read the New York Times article "When Patriotism Wasn't Religious" by Arthur Schlesinger Jr.; July 7, 2002.  Teddy Roosevelt, to me was a true Republican and a far, far better Christian than those who continue to cheapen God and have government put up figurative religious billboards at public expense, while decreeing lip service pledges to their pseudo faith, thusly demonstrating their true spiritual faithlessness!  May the true God be their judge and have mercy on their immortal souls!

True Republicans represent the nation, without religious preference as the United States is composed of persons with many different faiths, including non-Christian!  A True Republican is to represent them all equally under the Constitution of the United States of America and make no religious demands of them!

Article XI of the Treaty of Tripoli.

As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,-as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen,-and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

I implore strongly that the following non-secular blessing if any, be given at all political and governmental gatherings instead of any prayer that cannot in fact represent all of the American people who are not of any one religious faith or who might be atheists!

"Blessed are those who learn to admire but not envy; to praise but not flatter; to lead but not manipulate; for they are most welcome to join us and lead this country to greatness."

This was a secular Blessing that I had composed and used in meetings that I had chaired since the early 1980s before my direct involvement in the Republican Party.  I had composed it to avoid any conflict of religion or conflict with the beliefs of those of non-religious faith in our organizational meetings, because I take the rights of Americans just as seriously as I do our constitutions.  I would like to see the Republicans and Democrats use this blessing and practice what it says.

Sincerely yours,
Dean S. Hazel

PS:  My introduction to the Republican Party and true conservatism was in 1980 by the late Richard Durant of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan and his friends who were members of We The People A.C.T. at that time.  Throughout the '50s and '60s, Durant remained active in politics, particularly working to broaden the base of the Republican Party and encouraging young people to understand and get involved in politics and the ideas underlying the workings of a free society.  I intend to carry that work on.
