Leaving the Sandbox, Ch. 5: We the Jury
(From the title of Mickey Spillane’s classic I, the Jury.)
The grand jury and trial jury are powerful tools to arrest runaway US fascism. Jury power is people power
by Brian Wright

[From Leaving the Sandbox.] Speaking about ‘the Law’… 4th Branch. Let’s see, roughly a year ago, as our LP of Michigan state convention was approaching, an author of a book was making the rounds of LP sites—I’ve been Webmaster of the LPM since November 2009—and he sent me a note about his book about grand juries, The Hidden 4th Branch: A corrupt government’s worst nightmare. He asked for the LPM to pass a simple resolution to support grand juries investigating and indicting corrupt government behavior. Which I was glad to do. [Full Column]

Book Review
he Prospect of Immortality (1964)
by Robert C.W. Ettinger

The idea for going back into the time machine, purchasing, and rereading this book was precipitated by the need to get my own contract for cryogenic interment up to date. Shortly after my brother died at the tender age of 56 in May this year, I was contacted by Ben Best of the Cryonics Institute (CI), and encouraged to sit down and draw up the contract, like, now. Three months later it’s done. I even recently attended the CI annual meeting in Clinton Township, Michigan—where currently 84 patients are stored for eventual revival. Within a few weeks, I’ll write a column that covers my resumption of a beautiful relationship with the premier cryogenic research and storage organization in the world. [Full Review]

Up in the Air (2009)
Smooth Maneuvers __ 8/10

Well, Natalie’s new system is a big winner all the way around, at least for a while in the eyes of Ryan’s boss Craig Gregory (Jason Bateman). In fact it enables Gregory to let go of many of his traveling firers, but not Bingham, because, frankly, Bingham is a special breed. Ryan has become so disconnected from people he is acquiring a national reputation as a radical ‘life simplification’ consultant: “Throw all your relationships and belongings under the bus. Recognize them for what they are: neurotic traps.” He lives as he opines, with an apartment in Omaha as vacant as his aphorisms. Speaking of vacuity, Ryan has a passion for one thing and one thing only: frequent flier miles. In fact he has a goal of a specific number of these miles so he can: [Full Review]

Doreen Hendrickson Faces Unbelievable Federal Contempt Trial, July 21 Let’s Everyone Who Possibly Can Show Up in the Peanut Gallery

Unbelievable for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is this is the second trial for the same alleged offense. The first trial ended with a hung jury, which the judge decided to call a mistrial rather than an acquittal. [How in the world does that happen? Maybe I'm naive, but we were always told in civics 101 that you cannot be tried for the same offense twice. Who thinks we have grounds for a petition to a judge to form a grand jury to investigate Federal Judge Nancy Edmunds (Eastern District, Michigan) and bring rapid indictments for gross judicial misconduct? Until that happens, we're going to have to ride out the misconduct and we hope secure a second jury acquittal.] [Full Column]

Quote of the Week

"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government." — George Washington
